Delicate very rare saprophytic herb of leaf litter in dark, wet lower montane rainforest. It is holomycotrophic (plant deriving its nutrition solely from a mycorrhizal symbiosis).   See also Voyria tenella - Gymnosiphon niveus does not have a tuft of roots.
